This morning, I have been making a backup copy of my camcorder video and reviewing all of the entries that I made over the past couple of years. Its fun to see your kids growing up before your eyes. A lot of times we don’t really notice because we live with them all the time.
Our two kids are 3 and 5 years old. Both are little girls and cute as can be (in my humble opinion.) We have only had about one two-week vacation in the 5-or-so years we have been married so their isn’t much tape that I’ve recorded. I’ll have to start posting some pictures on my blog so you can see what they look like. I ought to post a picture of myself also!
My entire family had a really good time at our family get-together in Canada last summer. There’s a good chance we will do the same vacation again. Of course my wife is talking about making a trip to Australia very soon so I’m not too sure.
Make sure you don’t get too involved in work … it’s always good to take a good chunk of time off to spend with family and friends. This is especially important if you have young kids.

Oh yeah, by the way, today is my 36th birthday. I celebrated yesterday at my parents house. My Mom cooked the most wonderful dinner: chicken tamales, beans, corn, rice and chicken. For dessert, we had coconut cake, chocolate cake and mint chocolate chip ice cream. Yeah, we really pigged out last night.
For my birthday I got a lot of warm clothes, some heavy duty bags for holding tools and the The Simpsons 5th season DVD set. I can sure put those to good use.
Next week will be my daughter’s birthday … she will be turning 5 and starting school this year. I can’t believe how fast she has grown up.

Well Christmas is finally over and our kids both had a wonderful time. Everyone got a bunch of wonderful gifts this year. I got a new vest, a set of utencils, a battery charger, a new flashlight and a nice fat check from my parents.
The best part was the Christmas dinner with turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn and of course gravy. Afterwards we had rhubarb pie and chocolate pie. Needless to say, I was pretty stuffed after all that.
Tonight I am going over to my brother’s friend’s house for an “after Christmas” dinner. It should be more of the same. We are looking forward to doing that. I have some google invites that I would like to give away if anyone is interested. Just post a comment here and I will hook you up.

Merry Christmas everyone! I can’t believe another Christmas is already here. Good thing my wife and I got the shopping done a long time ago (back in June). Today looks like it is going to be another great Christmas day.
I will be going over to my parent’s house today to partake of the Christmas festivities and a wonderful Christmas dinner. Our kids (girls aged 3 and 4) should really enjoy this Christmas celebration. They are the perfect age to really enjoy the celebrations.
Everyone stay safe and have a wonderful Christmas. I wish you all the best and a happy new year!

Today is the last day of our long weekend (Labor Day). On Saturday, I took my daughter to her first day of pre-school. She was very excited to finally be able to go to school. I will need to bring some school supplies with us the next time.
I haven’t been doing any programming this weekend. It has been a very relaxed weekend. On Friday I was troubleshooting some mail issues that one of my clients has been having. One problem was a banned IP address on our mail server and the other issue seems to be a problem with Time Warner/Roadrunner not accepting mail from our domain. Still trying to find the root of that problem.
I went shopping yesterday at the produce market and my wife bought 10
seedless watermelons and about 20 grapefruit. This is good because we both like them very much and they were very cheap. We spent the whole day yesterday going shopping all around here.
The weather here is very hot, about 95 degrees here yesterday. It looks to be much the same here today. We’re going to do a lot more shopping again today.

Well, situation normal around here, everything is all fubar today. The staging database server basically has the log files full so I can’t properly test my new code that needs to be launched. Oh well, at least it is only a minor change. That is kind of typical of the environment around here.
The funny thing is that we have been having some major performance problems on the staging server. But the staging server is maybe used by 5 people at once. This includes the staging database as well so there really shouldn’t be any problem. My guess is that the problem is the poorly written code that has been placed on the server. There are some serious database design flaws that were introduced by our “crack” team of database administrators.
My vacation starts after today and I wonder if my boss really even knows that I am going. I will give him a call about 30 minutes before I leave to let him know that I have vacation the rest of the week. It will be good revenge for every time he asks me to start and finish a substantial project 30 minutes before I have to leave.
