It seems they have learned how to supress a gene in monkeys that supresses the brain’s understanding of how much work is required to receive a reward. You can read more about it here.
It’s no wonder those monkeys were so lazy in the first place. Because they started out working really, really hard and the reward they thought was coming didn’t actually come. Despite what their owners had promised them, they reneged on them without giving it a second thought. Maybe we can learn something from the treatment of these monkeys.
